![]() Before the witchcraft crisis ended, forty-five residents of Andover found themselves jailed on suspicion of witchcraft-more than the combined total of suspects from Salem Village and the town of Salem. This touched off a new wave of accusations, confessions, and formal charges. The first person these girls accused in Andover-a frail and elderly widow bereaved by a series of family tragedies over the previous three years-not only confessed, but stated that there were more than three hundred witches in the region, five times more than the number of suspects already in jail. Not surprisingly, they confirmed his supposition. ![]() Her husband suspected witchcraft as the cause and invited some of the afflicted girls from Salem Village to the town, thinking they could determine whether his suspicions were valid. ![]() However, a middle-aged woman in nearby Andover lay gravely ill. No new arrests had taken place for nearly six weeks and residents had every reason to believe the crisis soon would be over. ![]() The Massachusetts Bay colony's new governor, William Phips, had established a special court to try the suspected witches and the trials were well under way. The First Complete Account of the Largest Supernatural Crisis in American history, and How Ordinary Citizens Brought It to a Closeīy July 1692, the witch hunt surrounding the town of Salem and Salem Village had been raging for four months. ![]()

Nozick state of nature6/8/2023 ![]() ![]() It is influenced by John Locke, Immanuel Kant, and Friedrich Hayek. Nozick's entitlement theory, which sees humans as ends in themselves and justifies redistribution of goods only on condition of consent, is a key aspect of Anarchy, State, and Utopia. ![]() To support the idea of the minimal state, Nozick presents an argument that illustrates how the minimalist state arises naturally from a Lockean state of nature and how any expansion of state power past this minimalist threshold is unjustified. In opposition to A Theory of Justice (1971) by John Rawls, and in debate with Michael Walzer, Nozick argues in favor of a minimal state, "limited to the narrow functions of protection against force, theft, fraud, enforcement of contracts, and so on." When a state takes on more responsibilities than these, Nozick argues, rights will be violated. It won the 1975 US National Book Award in category Philosophy and Religion, has been translated into 11 languages, and was named one of the "100 most influential books since the war" (1945–1995) by the UK Times Literary Supplement. Anarchy, State, and Utopia is a 1974 book by the American political philosopher Robert Nozick. ![]()

Androma saga6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() Immanuel Kant stated in Universal Natural History and Theory of the Heavens (1755) that a large star was at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, and that Sirius might be the star. ![]() The available information about the Galactic Center comes from observations at gamma ray, hard (high-energy) X-ray, infrared, submillimetre, and radio wavelengths. Because VISTA has a camera sensitive to infrared light, it can see through much of the dust blocking the view in visible light, although many more opaque dust filaments still show up well in this picture.īecause of interstellar dust along the line of sight, the Galactic Center cannot be studied at visible, ultraviolet, or soft (low-energy) X-ray wavelengths. This pan video gives a closer look at a huge image of the central parts of the Milky Way made by combining thousands of images from ESO's VISTA telescope on Paranal in Chile and compares it with the view in visible light. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() "It was a gimmick, you know? So I ignored him because I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction." For a few moments, Sedaris's face clouds at the memory. "He just did it because he wanted to be written about," recalls Sedaris, with the distaste of an artist discussing a plagiarist. ![]() It wasn't even the loss of the food, although he was a little upset about that ("I'd been looking forward to that salmon!") – it was the fact that the man was trying to cheat. ![]() It wasn't the hygiene issue that bugged him. In fact, he was downright annoyed, which is not a common reaction from a writer who tends to regard the world in general with wide-eyed affection and his readers in particular with real fondness ("I always think it's a good policy to like the people who like you," he says with an almost straight face). Understandably, Sedaris was not best pleased. So he reached over and grabbed a handful of food off the Sedaris plate. T he man routinely described as the best living humorist in America, David Sedaris, was recently enjoying a plate of marinated salmon over greens while signing books in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois when a fan decided he wanted more than the writer's autograph. ![]()

The ways of white folks6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() I felt pretty sure clubs would have paid a lot more for him. So I thought immediately ‘What a good transfer for them’. When I saw that Liverpool had signed him I thought ‘How could Liverpool do this?’ They were not in their 100% best moment and other clubs would have spent more on him. He was a player I thought was one of the best in the Bundesliga. The Borussia Dortmund manager could not believe what Liverpool had gotten away with: When Bobby Firmino joined Liverpool for £29 million in 2015, Jürgen Klopp was shocked. Here’s eight ways to think about - and take joy in - Roberto Firmino: one for every season as a Red. ![]() His impact and legacy is hard to capture with any clarity, but I’ll try to do the Brazilian justice. Roberto Firmino has been at Liverpool for eight great years, and while it will be heart-breaking to see him go, we can at least spend his last few months in a red shirt giving him the roses he richly deserves. ![]()

![]() ![]() I totally geek out with anything related to the band Pierrot. Okay, this will probably sound random but if you follow my Twitter feed you already know. Sato is super nerdy what’s something you nerd out about? I loved to think of super flirty suggestive things for him to say I probably act more like Sato when it comes to relationships so I have tons of fun writing Aoi. ![]() I love learning new things and try to have something that my readers can learn about in each novel.ĭid you have more fun writing in Aoi’s or Sato’s point-of-view? I knew some, but tried to focus on ones I didn’t know much about. I had to do some research about Japanese New Year traditions. I was so used to writing Aoi and Sato already together it was sometimes hard to make them not make out! I also write an M/M thriller series so keeping up the light and fluffy act for 42,000 words got a bit difficult for my dark heart. ![]() ![]() What was the hardest thing about writing Would it Be Okay to Love You? So my favorite part was figuring out how they met and see how their relationship blossom. In that time line Aoi and Sato were already a couple. I’ve been writing the characters for about a year now in my free short story I sent out to my newsletter subscribers. It was nice to finally write the story of how Aoi and Sato met. What is your favorite part about writing the Would it Be Okay to Love You? ![]()

The Merciless Ones by Namina Forna6/6/2023 ![]() She stated in an interview that she first got the idea when she had a recurring dream of a girl in a golden armor walking in a field while she was still an undergraduate at Spelman College before writing the novel years later using elements of West African mythology and Sierra Leonean culture. ![]() She later found that western literature lacked African characters and black female heroes, and she was driven to change this. She also heard stories about African civilization such as the Walls of Benin and Great Zimbabwe told to her by her grandmother and father to distract her from the Sierra Leone civil war.
